Bangkok, 18 April 2023 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is once again working with GoPro to create and share content on Thailand worldwide, the focus this time being on the kingdom’s world-famous Songkran festival in Chiang Mai with authentic local Lanna style from 11-16 April 2023.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said “This latest project with GoPro to promote the Songkran festival or traditional Thai New Year, Chiang Mai, and Thailand in general is very much in line with the ‘Visit Thailand Year 2023: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign and the promotion of Thailand’s 5F soft-power foundations of Food, Film, Festival, Fight and Fashion to offer meaningful travel experiences.”
The Songkran 2023 project continued the collaboration between the TAT and GoPro to promote Thailand and its world-famous festivals and attractions to a worldwide audience. In 2019, GoPro brought influencers to experience the Sonkgran festival at Bangkok’s Khao San Road and the UNESCO World Heritage listed ancient capital of Ayutthaya.
This year’s project saw content creators from around the world including Asia Pacific, Brazil, Spain, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan, create and post content on ‘splash-and-spree’ Songkran festivities in Chiang Mai, using the HERO11 Black camera from GoPro.
Mr. Rick Loughery, Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications at GoPro, said “We are excited to have GoPro creators returning to Thailand to experience and celebrate the Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai with authentic local Lanna Style. Under the banner ‘Thai New Year Celebration in April’, the influencers’ storytelling of the Songkran Festival 2023 featured the distinctive hashtags #AmazingThailand, #AmazingNewChapters, and #GoProXTAT.
